RUSSIA – TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO
The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics were established on June 6, 1974.
In August 1992 the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago recognized the Russian Federation as the USSR’s successor.
In 2004 His Excellency Mr. Sergey V. Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and His Excellency Mr. Knowlson Gift, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, signed the protocol on the political consultations between the two Ministries (first consultations were held in February 2005 in Port of Spain).
In April 2005 the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation and the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago signed the cooperation agreement.
The trade turnover between Russia and Trinidad and Tobago is growing constantly.
In 2004 the Russian Cossack Folk Dance and Song Ensemble paid a visit to Trinidad and Tobago and gave nine concerts in Port of Spain, San Fernando, Couva and Tobago.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana H.E. Nikolay D.Smirnov is the non-resident Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.
